Beverly Hills Presbyterian Preschool NAEYC Accredited Early Learning Program

History

Beverly Hills Presbyterian Preschool opened its doors in 1950 and has been serving the surrounding neighborhood ever since. The talented actor, Margaret Hamilton, founded our school as an extension of her love of teaching which was her career prior to her success on the stage and screen. She is best known for her role as the Wicked Witch of the West in the classic film The Wizard of Oz. We are eternally grateful for her inspiration to start a nursery school on the corner of Rodeo Drive and Santa Monica Boulevard. For over seventy years, generations of children have been blessed by the school built from Margaret’s love of education. We have current parents who attended BHPP as children decades ago, providing a deep sense of tradition and special connection for families.

The preschool is nested within the campus of Beverly Hills Presbyterian Church and has a large, beautiful campus with many classrooms, multi-purpose rooms, multiple outdoor play spaces, and even a dedicated preschool library.

Program

Our focus is to provide opportunities for each child to grow socially, emotionally, physically, cognitively, creatively and spiritually. We strive to create an engaging environment where children learn about themselves, gain an understanding of others and develop self-esteem. Each child is given acceptance, encouragement, and respect as a unique creation of God.

Our goal is for each child to develop the ability to think creatively, make decisions, accept responsibility, problem solve, interact with peers in positive ways and to nurture a lifelong love of learning all while having fun! One of our guiding verses is found in Hebrews 12:15 and states, "See to it that no one misses the grace of God." We strive to ensure that all children and families are welcomed and embraced in a loving, supportive community filled with grace.

Each class at BHPP offers varied experiences in art, language, music, movement, science, outdoor play and cooking as we believe that children learn best through play. Developmentally-appropriate academic basics are introduced in our older classes as we gradually shift our focus to kindergarten readiness.

Chapel

Chapel is a special component of our program. Chapel is offered two times per week to all students and provides an opportunity to share basic Christian concepts through age-appropriate songs, stories, and prayers. Families from all faiths are welcome. There is no religion taught within our daily curriculum, however all students attend Chapel and recite simple prayers before meals each day.

Matriculation

As children progress through our program, kindergarten readiness becomes a goal when developmentally appropriate. We proudly send our students to some of the finest private and public elementary schools in Los Angeles.
